natural enemies: Gilgamesh, Archer.
likes: girls (especially those with guts), fighting, fishing and hanging around.
dislikes: double-dealers, people who takes advantage on others, rules breakers.
master: Bazette Fraga McRemitz (originally) and Kotomine Kirei
weapon: Gáe Bulg (his weapon as legendary character, also known as the Lightning Spear)
standing: Lawful neutral
noble phantasms: In Lancer case there are two noble phantasms both related to his legendary weapon.
- Gáe Bulg - The Spear of Impaling Barbed Death (the legendary spear that it's famous for always piercing the heart of the target. This first version is effective in close combat. It's a powerful malediction that can't be easilly avoided).
- Gáe Bulg - The Spear of Striking Death Flight (similar to the first version, but more powerful and effective on long rage, as it can take advantage of the real usage of the weapon).
personality: Lancer is a proud warrior, someone who can't abandon a fight just because he's losing. He's ready to fight till the end, for the sake of his fighting will and also for his Master (he obeys but he doesn't seem to be that attached to the person who summoned him). He easilly loses his cool though, probably because he enjoys too much battling with strong warriors as him. He's very agile and skilled and he's conscious of his strenght. He's not interesting in killing people, though he wants to strictly follow the rules of the war and that's the reason why he persecute Shirou at the beginning of Fate. He's very keen on his mission and somehow professional in his "work". He's noble and he can't really stand people who're joking with him or simply betraying his trust. He's also easilly touched by other's problems and if he chooses to protect someone, he'll do his best till the very end. Lancer hasn't lost at all the significant traits of his "human" personality. He really enjoys to date women or simply to spend his time in relaxing hobbies like fishing.
spoilers warning!!!
personal history: Lancer mainly joined the War because it was his own choice. he was already a sort of semi-god and thus an heroic spirit himself. He was probably thinking that joining the War could be a good way to meet new adversaries and fight against powerful warriors...avoiding a boring eternity.
He was summoned by a magician of the Association (Bazette, protagionist of Hollow Atarxia), who was misteriously assassinated and then recruited by Kotomine Kirei (who's teh one responsible for her supposed death, since he ripped her arm to get the command spell to control Lancer). He's the second Servant to appear in Fate, sent out to check the other masters and to try their abilities. He's not supposed to fight at his full potential and he's commanded to come back by his
"despiteful" Master (because he doesn't admire him at all) when he was finally discovering something more about his enemies (and actually risking his safety too much).
He eventually finds out that Kirei summoned an other Servant other than him (although Gilgamesh was already there since the previous war) and got mad at him, breaking his contact and defending Shirou and Saber from his master's attacks.
In UBW he's still a good guy. He fights against Shirou because he's commanded too and he willingy sacrifices himself to let him escape once again from Kirei (and also Archer this time). His master, mad at him, oblidges him to stab himself with his lance, but Lancer was at least able to kill Kirei in his last, deadly shot.
In the last scenario Lancer is less present than in the previous ones since he's soonely defeated by True Assassin and assimilated by him to complete his personality.
In Hollow Ataraxia he has a more important role, being the original servant of Bazette. It seems he doesn't want to confront her at the beginning, since he's still afectionated to her, she's a woman and being his original master he still feels he ows he something. Anyway he understands she must be stopped and he agrees with Shirou's idea to fight against her.
He eventually defeats her and is defeated by Bazette.
At the end Lancer can't complain about his destiny. He's able to fight and enjoy himself, that's what he cares the most.
the legend behind:In Irish mythology Cúchulainn [ku?xulin?] (Irish 'Hound of Culann'; also spelled Cú Chulainn or Cuchullain; also sometimes called Setanta) is the pre-eminent hero of Ulster in the Ulster Cycle. His original name was Setanta but he changed it after he accidently killed the dog of the smith Culann, promising him he would take
its place and become the watchdog of Ulster, thus he got that name meaning "Hound of Culann". In the celtic mythology it isn't really clear who his parents are. His mother changes following the tradition or the episodes and his father isn't clear as well, though it seems that Lugh could be his spiritual father and a man called Sualtam his biological one.
He was raised in the Isle of Skye by the warrior goddess Scathacha who also taught him the usage of weapons and especially of the Gae Bulg, her famous spear. He came back to Ulster
as an important warrior and leader of the Ulsterman, a demi-knight order of soldiers of Ulster, whom adventures were written by several bards and which become a very important part
of the Irish mithology (and especially in the Book of Dun Cow).
Thanks to his adventures and his quests, he became a semi-god too and he was also worshipped as a pagan god.
In Dublin there's a beautiful statue which represents his tragic death in battle, as his men were sleeping he fought all alone the tropps of Maeve and despite his many wounds, he tied himself to a tree to stand up and to confuse his enemies.
In the past Cuchulainn was mostly represented as a sun or as a sacrificial god.
His main enemy was Queen Maeve of Connacht, who was trying to marry him, but as he refused she decided to fight against him with all her efforts.
As it was predicted, she won and his blood was spread all over the country and it made earth more fertile.
He loved many women, included Aife, Emer and the fairy Fand.
