personality: Avenger has a sort of dual personality, and this is due to the fact that, having assumed Shirou's identity, he also got part of his personality, like his sence of justice and his affection for those who share their life with him. Although this positive side, Avenger can't be considered as a good figure. His original and dark side hates people, or well hates sacrifice and can't really understand its meaning. This is mostly due to his personal story and experience and the fact that he doesn't want to suffer anymore, especially for matters don't caused by him. Despite his early disappointment with Bazette's behaviour, he deeply cares for her and he wants her to live. He tries several times to leave her behind, forcing her to brek their contract, but he's never successful, maybe because he needs her or simply because he wants to be with her. They share a deep, unusual friendship, with a sad conclusion, although they never forget about each other. Avenger is probably the weakest servant, as he has no significant powers or strenght and he somehow relies too much on Bazette's ability. He doesn't seems to be interested in fighting as well, although he enjoyes battles and the Grail War seems an interesting experience to him.

personal history: Avenger's story is somehow tragic. He originally was an inhabitant of a poor indian villane, in a region in which tradition and religion were ruling the population and most of all were conditioning people's mind and beliefs. He was sacrificed by the same person he thoughts friends to exorcise an evil presence that was menacing the community. Through his sacrifice the villagers were saved and purified. He hasn't lived a san heroe at all, but his dramatic end made him an eirei, thus he could be summoned as an heroic spirit, although his will and intentions aren't pure at all. He was involved in the 3rd Grail War, and despite not belonging to any standard class, he was anyway accepted in the conflict. Anyway he was early defeated (after only 4 days) and his essence was absorbed by the Grail. He tainted the content of the Grail itself, expanding its presence through its powers. He had the chance to take again the form of a servant when the Grail was destroyed and he was able to make a new contract with Bazette. From that moment onward he looked after her, as he was able to keep her alive despite the injuries she got from Kotomine Kirei and also the fact she was killed multiple times during the nocturnal fights in the new, fake Grail war created by Avenger's will. He was able to make a fake conflict, only available on night times and subjected to a continue loop, since he could only experience 4 days of the Heavens Feel he took part at and he could only riproduce that time through his experience. Living with Bazette, and fighting hopelessy in the new war he could change his view of life and people. Although he hated so much the society for the brutal way in which it treated him, he could also understand that people isn't that bad and that he was able to forgive everybody. He had no real goals or will to win the war, but Bazette gave him a reason to believe and despite they paths were different, at the end of the story, he would never forget about those days he lived with her. His soul was finally healed from his hatred.
the legend behind: Angra Mainyu is a concept belonging to the Zoroastrim religion/philosophy. As said by the prophet Zarathustra, Ahura Mazda is the supreme God, good and saint, who has created the world with a single thought. His companions are seven creature: Amesha Spenta, the immortal saints, who are responsible for the seven creations of the ancient cosmogony, and they're the different aspects of God. The spirit of Good, Spenta Manyu, finds a counterpart in Angra Mainyu, the Spirit of destruction: they are like twins always fighting between themselves (as the fight between good and evil). In Zoroastrim there isn't a neat distinction between good or evil origins; everyone can choose the path to take, and that's why Angra Mainyu could choose the destruction. Angra Mainyu chould be considered as a spirit though, since it's the representation of one of the dual sides of this particular religione. It can be associated to the Christian devil, although the concepts are somehow different. Angra Mainyu contribues to mantain the equilibrium between good and evil.
